When I started at CrossfitMarshfield in August of 2014, I was completely unaware as to how unhealthy I really was. At 198lbs, I was the heaviest I had ever been, I was a smoker, and my eating habits were anything but nutritious. The first day I walked through the doors of CrossfitMarshfield I was immediately greeted with the friendly smile of Anthony Pavao, the gyms owner. With his enthusiastic energy, he led me through the facility explaining everything I would need to know and answered all of my questions and concerns without hesitation. The following Monday, I showed up for my first workout. I must admit that I was nervous to be the “new kid” at the gym but I realized almost immediately that would not be an issue. Everyone greeted me with their hands extended, and that alone was encouragement enough to start something that I never imagined would become such a huge part of my life. Every day, It is so apparent how committed all the coaches are to the success of each and every one of us. On one occasion, after missing a few workouts, I even received a call from the owner, checking up on my well-being. With the constant variety of workouts, encouragement, and support, I have shed almost 40 lbs. Not only has my health improved, but my body finally feels the way it should. I am more than happy to say that CrossfitMarshfield has changed my life for the better and I can’t wait to continue growing as an athlete!

Here I am, ten short weeks later, half the girl I used to be.

Let’s start off with I love food. My original thoughts in life were that I will work out so that I could eat the foods that I want and be in pretty good shape, good theory right? I thought so. For years I went to my trainer 3x week and was encouraged to make good choices, which I sometimes did. I am not saying I was incredibly unhealthy, but I saw no reason why I shouldn’t have pizza 3x week. I began my crossfit journey about 11 months ago when a friend finely convinced me that the people at the “box” weren’t intimidating and really intense. I mean c’mon now, crossfit, intense right? Yes and no, which I have learned for myself. I always had this stereotype in my head of a diesel group of people lifting heavy weights, listening to loud music and being unapproachable. Yes, we do some of these things; however I have never been around such a supportive caring environment of people than I have at my gym! I found that I liked working out in groups and I create goals for myself. I am now in control of my workout, hence why it can be intense or not intense, your choice. In comparison to the years of personal training at a standard gym, I have never seen such changes in my body than I have in the past 11 months doing crossfit. Crossfit has also led me to my first food challenge… the Whole30, or the wholewhatamithinkingisit30daysyet challenge. I had brushed off any previous food challenges in the gym because I still believed that I would continue to work out so that I could eat what I wanted. I had heard the “I feel great” or the “lost xx lbs.” Yea, okay guys, sure, not eating ice cream is really going to make me feel great. I opted to sign up for the challenge and I am so glad that I did. I now understand what everyone is talking about! I can now feel and see the difference in my body when I eat certain foods and eliminate others out of my diet. I am a nurse and work long shifts and it has been easy for me to brush off preparing meals and eating whatever is around. This challenge made me think and really tested my self control. I found out more about myself thru this process too. I know, c’mon Jenny its food, let’s not get sentimental, however I am very proud of myself. It’s so easy to give up on something when the people around you don’t fully support you or constantly challenge you. Doing the food challenge thru CFM has given me the support I needed to start AND finish the Whole30. I ended up losing 10lbs, not that that is the only reason I did the challenge. I did the challenge to test this food theory (I need to do things for myself). I had started the challenge as just that… a challenge, to see if I could last a day, two days, a week and so on. I realized what I was putting into my body and it was a huge learning process and real eye opener. There is one thing I learned… food really does make a difference. There, I said it. I can see the difference in how my clothing fits, how I feel everyday and my endurance during my workouts. I can only thank my awesome coaches who have encouraged me and really focused on my individual needs. I have never felt so supported than I have being at CFM. For anyone ever questioning whether crossfit is for them, I say: why isn’t it?

Ok so I really haven't believed anyone at all that I have been losing inches until my daughter took a picture of me today. I've always been so self conscious about myself and my appearance (esp after being pregnant) I would never in a million years do this but wanted to share this with you so you can tell Anthony that in just 6 short weeks look at how much success I have had coming to crossfit. These pants were wicked tight on me 6 weeks ago to the point where I almost couldn't button them. I also wanted to mention this and I'll tell Anthony too on Monday, todayI had a competition where we had to do physical stuff like running, punching a bag , kneeing a bag and more running and I won... And I wasn't out of breath. I thank crossfit marshfield for helping me become a healthier person. 6 weeks ago I would've been out of breath and probably would've stopped. So you guys have a good thing and I am so happy to be part of the crossfit marshfield family! See you guys on Monday!

Anthony, I want to take a minute to thank you and Marshfield Crossfit for all you are doing to help me become more fit and healthy. Since I joined Crossfit 7 months ago, I have lost 30lbs, changed my diet, and have accomplished fitness goals that I have not seen since college. As a 48yr old, I thought my healthiest years were behind me but I was completely wrong. Your patience, expertise, and caring for each of your clients has helped me and others get much healthier. Most importantly, my energy, attitude, and sense of personal accomplishment have never been stronger. I, personally, think Crossfit does as much for the mind as the body.
When I first heard about crossfit I thought it was for the very fit or gym rats. What I have found was completely opposite of that perception. Crossfit is for the person who wants to get healthier no matter what age or fitness level. It is a smart, time efficient, and fun way to improve ones health. I am so glad I took the first step.
